A gunman opened fire at the convoy of National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday while he was returning from a marriage function in Jammu, officials said. Both Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who was travelling with him, escaped unharmed, PTI reported citing authorities.

Authorities added that the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attempted to shoot at Farooq Abdullah as he was leaving the marriage hall in Jammu. The assailant was overpowered by two officers from the security wing of the J&K Police, officials said, PTI reported.
