Navya Naveli Nanda, granddaughter of veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, and and niece of Abhishek Bachchanhas taken a path that sets her apart from her family’s cinematic legacy. While her brother stepped into the film industry with his debut in Zoya Akhtar’s Archies series and later appeared in Ikkis, Navya chose entrepreneurship over entertainment.
The question of whether she would ever carry forward the Bachchan acting legacy has followed her for years. Recently, in a conversation with Variety India, Navya addressed this directly. She clarified that there was never any pressure from her family to join Bollywood. According to her, the Bachchans have always supported individual ambitions and career choices. There was no expectation to choose films, nor any obligation to extend the family’s acting lineage.

Her interests
Her inclination toward business did not happen overnight. Growing up, Navya was surrounded not only by cinema but also by enterprise. She observed her father, Nikhil Nanda, deeply involved in entrepreneurship. On her paternal side as well, business was a strong presence, with her grandmother and aunt engaged in their own ventures. Her mother, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, built her identity as an author and philanthropist. Watching them build and manage their own workspaces left a lasting impression on Navya from a young age. That early exposure shaped her thinking and helped her realise she wanted to define success on her own terms.
IIM and her life as a student
In 2024, Navya enrolled at IIM Ahmedabad for its blended MBA programme, a rigorous course that combines on-campus sessions with online learning modules. The decision marked a significant commitment to sharpening her business acumen. Earlier, during an interview with Mojo Story hosted by Barkha Dutt, she opened up about returning to academic life. She described the transition as challenging, particularly because of IIM Ahmedabad’s demanding and disciplined academic environment. At the same time, she acknowledged how rewarding the experience has been.Apart from this, Navya is the founder of Project Naveli, a non-profit initiative that works to provide women with resources and opportunities for social and economic independence. She is also the co-founder of Nimaya Foundation, which is a platform that works as a career accelerator for girls with big dreams but restrictive circumstances.
