Renowned screenwriter Salim Khan, celebrated for shaping some of the biggest Hindi blockbusters of the 1970s such as Sholay, Deewar and Trishul, has been admitted to a medical facility in Mumbai. The veteran writer, who is also widely recognised as the father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, is currently under medical supervision.

According to a PTI report, the 90-year-old has been undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital. Sources indicated that he was admitted earlier in the day and is presently receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit. While specific details about his health condition have not been publicly disclosed, close associates confirmed that he is being closely monitored by doctors.

Architect of the ‘Angry Young Man’ Era

Salim Khan, in collaboration with legendary lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, revolutionised Hindi cinema during the 1970s. The iconic writing duo, popularly known as Salim-Javed, crafted stories that redefined mainstream filmmaking. They are credited with introducing the powerful ‘angry young man’ persona, immortalised on screen by megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Their scripts brought a new intensity to commercial cinema, blending action, drama and social commentary. After parting ways professionally from Javed Akhtar, Salim continued his journey in filmmaking and contributed to projects including Naam, further cementing his legacy as a master storyteller.

A Close-Knit Family

Beyond his professional achievements, Salim Khan is the head of one of Bollywood’s most prominent families. He is married to Salma Khan, and together they have four children — Salman, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri.

He later married veteran actress Helen, and the couple share a daughter, Arpita Khan. Over the decades, Salim Khan has remained a respected figure both within the industry and at home, guiding his family while leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
