Anderson Cooper leaving ‘60 minutes’ after 20 years to focus on family
After nearly two decades as a correspondent on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Anderson Cooper is stepping away from the broadcast, saying he wants to devote more time to his young children, a move that comes amid a period of internal strain at the storied Sunday newsmagazine.

His decision comes amid turmoil at “60 Minutes.” However, Cooper appeared on Sunday, introducing a brief segment on filmmaker Ken Burns, and is expected to remain through the current season, which ends in May.

“Being a correspondent at ‘60 Minutes’ has been one of the great honors of my career,” Cooper said in a statement. “I got to tell amazing stories, and work with some of the best producers, editors and camera crew in the business. For nearly 20 years, I’ve been able to balance my jobs and CNN and CBS, but I have little kids now and I want to spend as much time with them as possible, while they still want to spend time with me.”

His departure from the prestigious program is likely to spark questions about CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss’s leadership, though his spokesperson declined further comment.

His networth

According to the Parade website, his networth is $60 million. Cooper’s fortune largely stems from his television career beginning in the late 1980s, with most of his net worth coming from his work at CNN since 2001.

His family

Anderson Cooper, 58, is a CNN anchor and father of two sons, Wyatt (2020) and Sebastian (2022), whom he co-parents with former partner Benjamin Maisani in New York City; he is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and Wyatt Emory Cooper.

He has reported for “60 Minutes” since the 2006–2007 season under a unique arrangement with CNN, where he has anchored “Anderson Cooper 360” since 2003.

CBS News thanked Cooper for his two decades of service and said the door remains open should he return.

His exit comes amid tensions at the program, which in December delayed a Sharyn Alfonsi report on the Trump administration’s immigration policy before airing it a month later with added comments but no on-camera interviews.

President Donald Trump sued “60 Minutes” over a Kamala Harris interview, and Paramount Global later settled the case out of court.
