‘Babri structure will never come back’, says UP CM Yogi Adityanath

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that the Babri structure would “never come back” and asked those “dreaming” of it to abide by the law of the land.

Addressing an event in Barabanki, Adityanath said that anyone who breaks the law would face consequences. “Those who are dreaming of the Babri structure, to them I would like to say that the day will never come. Learn to live by the rules in India. Abide by the law of the land,” he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also took a jibe at what he described as “opportunists,” saying that some people remember Lord Ram only in times of crisis but forget Him once their problems are resolved. “Some opportunists remember Lord Ram when they face crises and forget Him later,” he said.

Referring to the November 1990 incident in Ayodhya, Adityanath said there was “no place” for those who fired bullets at devotees of Lord Ram. In November 1990, Uttar Pradesh Police opened fire on kar sevaks who were heading towards Ayodhya during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. At the time, the state was governed by a Samajwadi Party government led by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Babri Masjid was demolished by kar sevaks on December 6, 1992. The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh at the time, led by Kalyan Singh, did not order police firing. Singh later resigned, and his government was dismissed by the Centre.

In November 2019, a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court of India, headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, unanimously ruled that the 2.77-acre disputed land in Ayodhya be handed over to a government-run trust for the construction of the Ram temple. The court also directed that an alternative five-acre plot be allotted to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque.
