Watch Starmer’s Bonjour Video: British PM teases Macron with sunglasses, but French President’s reply is viral "for sure"
Macron Davos Meme: Britain's Keir Starmer has become the latest world leader to gently mock French President Emmanuel Macron for wearing sunglasses at Davos, donning a pair of aviator shades at a comedy event. The British prime minister posted a c...

“Bonjour!” Starmer quipped, smiling broadly as he put on the dark glasses during an on-stage interview with comedian Matt Forde for his The Political Party podcast. The light-hearted gesture came after Macron himself made global headlines last week for wearing blue aviators during a speech at Davos, inspiring viral memes and social media chatter worldwide.
Macron’s Davos Look Becomes Internet Sensation
Macron’s choice of sunglasses was more than a style statement. The French president had suffered a broken blood vessel, which left him with a bloodshot eye, according to the Elysee Palace’s chief physician, as cited by AFP. Despite the medical reason, his aviator moment quickly captured global attention. The unusual look even drew reactions from world leaders. US President Donald Trump joked about Macron’s appearance, comparing him to characters from Top Gun and The Terminator. Trump quipped, “I watched him sort of be tough in those beautiful sunglasses… what the hell happened?”
Macron’s speech itself was equally notable. He criticised Trump’s threats towards Europe, calling them “unacceptable”, and emphasised that France prefers “respect to bullies” in international relations.
Starmer Adds Humour to International Politics
Starmer’s playful imitation demonstrates how Macron’s Davos style has transcended politics to become light-hearted international banter. The British prime minister not only wore aviators on stage but also shared a clip on TikTok alongside a mock Top Gun poster featuring himself and Macron as fighter jet pilots.
Within minutes, Macron joined in on the joke, responding to Starmer’s post with a simple, viral-worthy “For sure”, echoing his own Davos catchphrase.
