"No more lives will be lost in the language struggle; nor will our Tamil consciousness ever die. We will always oppose the imposition of Hindi," the chief minister said in a post on X ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.
By leading the anti-Hindi agitation, the people of Tamil Nadu "safeguarded the right and identity of various linguistic national races in the sub-continent".
The chief minister also paid a tribute to the Language Martyrs who laid down their lives opposing the imposition of Hindi and in defence of Tamil.
"I paid homage to Natarajan and Thalamuthu, who sacrificed their lives in the first phase of the language struggle in 1938, at their memorial located in Moolakothalam. I also paid tribute to Mother Dharmambal, a heroine of the language struggle," he said in his post.
He also inaugurated their busts at the Thalamuthu Natarajan Memorial Hall in Egmore.
