Actor Asin and almost-billionaire Rahul Sharma recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on January 19. As pictures from their intimate celebration made their way online, fans were reminded of the couple’s quiet yet heartwarming love story, one that began far away from film sets and red carpets. While Asin has largely stayed away from the limelight since marriage, her personal journey continues to spark curiosity, especially the unexpected role Bollywood played in bringing the two together.

Asin and Rahul Sharma's love story

Rahul Sharma opened up about their first meeting during a candid conversation on Raj Shamani’s podcast Figuring Out Co. Looking back, he described their meeting spot with humour, calling Dhaka “the most romantic place on earth.” The two were in the Bangladeshi capital for work, and it was there that destiny quietly stepped in. At the time, Asin was travelling with actor Akshay Kumar for a promotional event, while Rahul was also part of the trip.

According to Rahul, their introduction was orchestrated by Akshay Kumar, who felt there was something common between the two. Speaking on the podcast, Rahul shared that Akshay described Asin as someone extremely focused and professional, someone who would arrive, do her work sincerely, and leave without fuss.

That description, he felt, mirrored his own personality. Akshay then exchanged their phone numbers, encouraging them to connect. Rahul recalled that their first interaction was brief and polite, nothing dramatic, just a simple hello before they went their separate ways.

It was only later that Asin realised Rahul was not just another entrepreneur. He was the man behind Micromax’s success and the brain behind major initiatives like the Micromax Asia Cup 2012. What truly stood out to her, however, was not his wealth but his grounded nature. Reports at the time noted that his humility and simplicity, despite his millionaire status, left a strong impression on the actor. The two stayed in touch, slowly getting to know each other beyond formal conversations.

Their relationship grew steadily and away from public glare. Rahul has shared that early on, he was clear about his intentions and even expressed a desire to meet Asin’s parents. However, Asin preferred taking time to understand him better, and that mutual respect laid the foundation for their bond.

After nearly four years of dating, Rahul planned an elaborate proposal at a luxury hotel in Delhi. He organised a treasure hunt that ended with him going down on one knee and asking Asin to marry him.

During the interview with HT in 2016, Akshay Kumar said that he had been hiding the new of their love story for three and a half to four years.

"Yes, I got them to meet, and Jacqueline (Fernandez) was also a part of it, but she didn't realise it because I played it very slyly. It was during Housefull 2, and we were in Delhi. Don't laugh, but we were playing hide and seek, and I made the two of them hide together in one cupboard. That is how it started, and it is so nice that they are getting married now," he added.

The couple tied the knot in January 2016, first in a Christian ceremony and then in a traditional Hindu wedding near Delhi. In October 2017, they welcomed their daughter, Arin Sharma. Today, as they celebrate a decade of togetherness, their story stands out for its simplicity. Now, fans are urging for Asin's comeback in the industry.
