Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday thanked voters in Maharashtra after the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious in the state’s civic body elections.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote: “Thank you Maharashtra! The dynamic people of the state bless the NDA’s agenda of pro-people, good governance. The results of various municipal corporation elections indicate that the NDA’s bond with the people of Maharashtra has further deepened. Our track record and vision for development have struck a chord. My gratitude to people across Maharashtra. This is a vote to add momentum to progress and celebrate the glorious culture the state is associated with.”

Early trends indicated a strong performance by the Bharatiya Janata Party in key cities such as Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is also poised to challenge the long-standing Thackeray influence in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, in partnership with the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Mahayuti is set to secure control of 25 out of the 29 municipal corporations in the state, including Mumbai.

“The verdict reflects the trust of the people of Maharashtra in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the policies pursued by the BJP-led alliance,” Fadnavis said. He also said he humbly remembered Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on the occasion of the victory, adding that Balasaheb’s blessings had helped the alliance secure the mandate.

“Our agenda will always be development. We will use this victory to transform the lives of the people. Hindutva has always been our soul, and it cannot be separated from development. Our Hindutva is inclusive,” Fadnavis added.

Polling for elections to 29 civic bodies across Maharashtra was held on Thursday, with counting underway on Friday. The municipal corporation elections were conducted on January 15 after a gap of several years, as the terms of most bodies had ended between 2020 and 2023.
