Zydus Hospital to start in Ahmedabad, to foray into Vadodara

Zydus Hospital expects to commission its Ahmedabad hospital project by the end of 2013.

AHMEDABAD: Zydus Hospital expects to commission its Ahmedabad hospital project by the end of 2013. The project owned by Zydus Family Trust will also foray into Vadodara and spend Rs Rs 450 crore on its hospital ventures. The company already operates one hospital in Anand.

"We have started construction of hospital project in Ahmedabad." said Zydus group chairman Pankaj Patel on the sidelines of Gujarat Pharma Conclave held in Ahmedabad.

The Ahmedabad project will have more than 15 floors and will come up at an investment of Rs 250 crore. It will be spread over 10,000 sq meter near Thaltej and have a capacity of 500 beds, Mr Patel said.

Zydus Family Trust belongs to Mr Patel and his family members and has a 75% stake in the listed entity Cadila Healthcare Ltd. Mr Patel is chairman of Zydus Cadila Group which has two listed entities Cadila Healthcare and Zydus Wellness Ltd under its fold.

In 2011, Zydus Hospitals acquired an under-construction mall in Anand, a city 75 km from Ahmedabad, and converted it into a hospital with 160-bed capacity. The plan is to upgrade it to 300 beds at an investment of Rs 100 crore in Anand.

In future, Zydus will foray into Vadodara with 300 bed capacity hospital and an investment of Rs 100 crore. Land has been acquired near Gotri road in Vadodara.
