Amitabh Bachchan used to read Bhagavad Gita every morning
Amitabh Bachchan has, over decades, earned a reputation not merely as a celebrated performer but as a standard against which professionalism in Hindi cinema is often measured. Colleagues who have worked alongside him frequently speak about his strict adherence to time, unwavering discipline, and deep respect for the craft of acting. These qualities, according to many industry veterans, set him apart even during the early years of his career.

Ranjeet Recalls Early Days on Set

In a recent interaction with Alpha Neon Studioz, senior actor Ranjeet revisited his experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan during the filming of Reshma Aur Shera, which was only Bachchan’s second project. Ranjeet shared that even in those formative years, Amitabh followed a structured personal routine that reflected his grounded upbringing. Despite being away from home, he ensured constant emotional connection with his family.

Letters, Scriptures, and Discipline

Ranjeet revealed that Amitabh made it a habit to write to his parents every single night, no matter how exhausting the shoot schedule was. Mornings, on the other hand, were reserved for spiritual reading, with the Bhagavad Gita forming an integral part of his daily life. This balance of personal values and professional responsibility, Ranjeet explained, was typical of actors from that era, who treated their work with near-religious seriousness.

Behind the Iconic Namak Halaal Scene

The conversation also shifted to a memorable moment from Namak Halaal, particularly the comic scene where Amitabh’s character attempts to speak in English while applying for a job. The sequence, now considered iconic, appeared effortless on screen but required intense preparation behind the scenes. Ranjeet disclosed that Amitabh rehearsed the scene extensively before filming.

Perfection Before Performance

According to Ranjeet, the scene was initially attempted, but Amitabh chose to halt filming midway. He retreated to his makeup room and later informed the team that he wished to prepare further before delivering the scene exactly as envisioned. Shooting was wrapped for the day. When he returned the following morning, Amitabh delivered the entire sequence flawlessly in a single take, with no interruptions or retakes required. This, Ranjeet noted, was the level of commitment actors once brought to their roles.

A Long-Standing On-Screen Association

Over the years, Ranjeet and Amitabh Bachchan collaborated on several successful films that left a lasting impact on Hindi cinema. Their shared filmography includes classics such as Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Namak Halaal, Laawaris, Suhaag, and Yaarana, each standing as a testament to an era defined by dedication, preparation, and cinematic excellence.
