Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to head panel for Assam assembly polls candidates

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday named screening committees to shortlist candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, appointing AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as chairperson of the panel for Assam.

This is Vadra's first organisational assignment since she stepped down as AICC general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh. She has since continued as a general secretary and is now a Lok Sabha member from Wayanad.

According to an AICC release, Madhusudan Mistry will head the screening committee for Kerala, TS Singh Deo for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and B K Hariprasad for West Bengal.


The screening committees will shortlist candidates in consultation with the respective Pradesh Congress Committees. These names will then be placed before the Congress Central Election Committee for final approval.
