Aamir Khan once received a lot of death threats
Bollywood icon Aamir Khan once found himself facing serious death threats, a revelation recently shared by his nephew and actor Imran Khan. During a candid discussion on the show Unfiltered with Samdish, Imran reflected on his long-standing relationship with Aamir and the deep trust he has in his uncle’s intentions.

Having known him since childhood, Imran expressed unwavering confidence that Aamir’s professional choices and the causes he supports stem from sincerity and moral conviction. He recalled that one particular episode of Satyamev Jayate, which addressed the deeply sensitive issue of female infanticide, provoked intense backlash from certain sections of society, resulting in threats to Aamir’s life.

Satyamev Jayate was a socially driven television series hosted by Aamir Khan that aired from 2012 to 2014. Spanning 25 episodes, the program focused on a new social concern in each installment. Aamir used the platform to spotlight uncomfortable but crucial realities by bringing together survivors, grassroots activists, subject experts, and public figures.

The show fearlessly explored a wide range of topics including female foeticide, sexual abuse of children, sexual violence, honour-based crimes, domestic abuse, caste-based discrimination, social exclusion, the need for acceptance of diverse sexual identities, harmful notions of masculinity, substance addiction, and the growing criminal influence in politics. While the series earned widespread praise for its intent and impact, it also stirred anger among groups unwilling to confront these issues.

Imran also commented humorously on how controversy seems to follow Aamir wherever he goes. He joked that for years, people have repeatedly tried to push his uncle out of the country, suggesting that Aamir’s outspoken nature and willingness to challenge societal norms often make him a target of criticism and hostility.

Turning to Aamir Khan’s recent professional journey, the actor was last seen in his home production Sitaare Zameen Par. The film, positioned as a spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par, performed moderately at the box office and reportedly earned more than ₹250 crore globally.

Aamir also made a special appearance in Happy Patel, the directorial debut of comedian Vir Das. The project is notable for marking Imran Khan’s return to acting after a ten-year hiatus. The trio had earlier worked together on the cult hit Delhi Belly in 2012. Additionally, Aamir had played a key role in launching Imran’s career by producing his debut film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in 2008, a romantic drama that also featured Genelia D’Souza.
