Who is Maryam d'Abo?
Maryam d’Abo is best known for playing Kara Milovy, the Bond girl in the 1987 film The Living Daylights. Born in London, she grew up across Europe and developed an interest in the arts at an early age. She initially explored drawing before turning towards acting as a teenager. While studying in Geneva, she joined an amateur theatre group and later moved to London to pursue formal training at Drama Centre London, leaving after one term to begin working in films.
Her screen debut came with the cult science fiction horror film Xtro in 1982, where she played a French au pair caught in a disturbing alien storyline. She followed this with roles in Until September and television adaptations of Sidney Sheldon’s Master of the Game and If Tomorrow Comes. During the mid-1980s, d’Abo appeared in notable films like White Nights and Out of Africa, along with Arthur the King. She also built a strong stage career in France, performing in productions such as Spartacus and Cyrano de Bergerac, before her international breakthrough as Kara Milovy in The Living Daylights.
