Mumbai opener Rohit Sharma’s much-anticipated outing ended in disappointment as he was dismissed for a golden duck in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Uttarakhand at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday. Uttarakhand pacer Devendra Bora produced an early breakthrough after his side opted to bowl, removing the experienced batter in the opening over.

Rohit, who came into the match in strong form after scoring 155 against Sikkim in the previous fixture, attempted his trademark pick-up pull shot but failed to connect cleanly. The ball was caught at deep square leg by Jagmohan Nagarkoti, cutting short Mumbai’s hopes of an explosive start.

Devendra Bora’s rise in domestic cricket

The 25-year-old Bora was playing only his third List A match when he claimed the prized wicket. He had earlier taken four wickets in Uttarakhand’s opening Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 match against Himachal Pradesh. Bora has featured in 15 first-class matches for Uttarakhand, picking up 30 wickets, including a best return of 6 for 79 against Bengal in the Ranji Trophy in October. He came into prominence through the Uttarakhand Premier League, where his 10 wickets in six matches for the Dehradun Warriors earned him a place in the state side.
