New Delhi: BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Friday alleged that the DMK government in Tamil Nadu is "a symbol of anti-Sanatana" and accused it of "lathi-charging Hindu devotes" and defying a high court order to allow lighting of the Karthigai deepam at Thiruparankundram Hill temple near Madurai.

"One state in India has become a symbol of anti-Sanatan Dharma," Thakur alleged in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour. "Their ministers are making statements against Sanatan Dharma. They objected when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was doing his duties for the Ram temple."

He said the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court criticised the state government and accused its officials of ignoring its order on lighting the Karthigai deepam lamp at the Thiruparankundram temple. "Hindus were lathi-charged, who were moving towards the temple. Despite the court order, they were not allowed to light the lamp. Why are the Stalin government and its police acting in this manner? They have breached the court order and committed contempt of the court," Thakur alleged.

As the DMK MPs started protesting, the chair adjourned the House for lunch.
