Trinamool Congress sacks MLA Humayun Kabir over Bengal Babri plan

The Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended its Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir, days after he announced plans to build a replica of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad's Beldanga. Even after suspension, Kabir said he will go ahead with laying the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid replica on December 6 and float a new party on December 22.

West Bengal minister and senior party leader Firhad Hakim, announcing the suspension of Kabir, said, "We noticed that one of our MLAs from Murshidabad suddenly declared to build Babri Masjid. He lives in Rejinagar and is an MLA from Bharatpur. Then why a mosque in Beldanga? Because Beldanga is communally sensitive. It will be easier to cause riots here. If there are riots, it will help the BJP. We want to say strictly, we don't believe in communalism." "We had warned him thrice. As per the decision of our party leadership, we are suspending MLA Humayun Kabir," Hakim announced. "Those who do divisive politics, the party does not keep any relationship with them," Hakim added.

The chief minister, without naming Kabir, during her Baharampur rally said, "You (BJP) will maintain relations with some among us and fund them to create communal tension, and will blame us for it, it is not acceptable." "We will not allow this to happen. We don't want any riots in Murshidabad, and the NIA gets a chance to investigate and arrest innocent brothers and sisters. I want peace in Murshidabad, let us not allow any riot to take place in Murshidabad. Some work as traitors before elections by taking money from the BJP. They are our enemy," she further said.

Calling Banerjee as "RSS-stamped CM", Kabir said, "It is better to get a BJP CM. She gives money to the Durga puja committees, sends prasad from Jagannath Dham to the entire state and insults Muslims."

He further announced, "I will quit tomorrow, resign as an MLA and launch a party on December 22. We will fight the upcoming assembly elections in 135 seats in Bengal."
