Dr Nene and Madhuri has been married since 1999
Madhuri Dixit has been married to her husband, Dr. Shriram Nene, for more than two decades. After her marriage to the Indian-American doctor, Madhuri moved to the US, and later, they welcomed two sons—Arin and Ryan. In a chat with ANI, the ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ star revealed that her husband hadn’t watched any of her films and the only star he knew about was Amitabh Bachchan.

While speaking with ANI, she was asked whether Dr. Nene had watched any of her Bollywood performances. Madhuri explained that he had grown up away from India, having been born in London and then shifting to the United States at the age of seven. His visits to India were limited to childhood vacations, which became even rarer as academics took priority. She shared that families from his Maharashtrian background often emphasized studies over cinema, and as a result, he neither followed movies nor understood Hindi during his younger years.

His Comfort With Marathi and Limited Film Exposure

Madhuri further noted that Dr. Nene spoke Marathi well because his grandparents did not use English, which encouraged him to converse with them in their mother tongue. Although he eventually picked up Hindi, he had not been a film watcher growing up. According to Madhuri, the one movie he remembered seeing was Amar Akbar Anthony, which meant the only actor he recognised at the time was Amitabh Bachchan.

An Unexpected Moment With American Neighbours

She also fondly narrated an amusing experience from her years in Denver, where Dr Nene was working. Their American neighbours knew nothing about her profession, and she had never mentioned her stardom. One neighbour once assumed that unfamiliar cars circling their home were scouting for a possible burglary and even offered to contact the police. Madhuri clarified that the visitors were actually admirers who recognised her. The neighbours were thrilled to learn they had a movie star living next door and eagerly asked to watch her work.

Her Upcoming Project

Madhuri is preparing for her next release, a psychological drama titled Mrs Deshpande, which is scheduled to launch on Jio Hotstar on December 19.
