Kolkata: Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee Monday claimed his party was not against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, but had reservations with the manner of its execution.

Seeking a debate on SIR in the Lok Sabha, which began the Winter session Monday, Banerjee said his party was "against the way it (SIR) was executed."

"What the Opposition is asking is a debate on SIR. Is it a drama? If raising people's voice is drama, then the people will give them a reply in the coming elections," Banerjee said, referring to the BJP. "The Opposition (nationally) is working within the legal framework to ask questions." He also said that the ruling Trinamool would win more seats in the West Bengal assembly polls than five years ago despite the SIR.
