Samajwadi Party’s Sudhakar Singh, MLA from Ghosi, dies at 67 after prolonged illness

Samajwadi Party legislator Sudhakar Singh, who represented the Ghosi Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh, passed away at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on Thursday at the age of 67 after prolonged battling illness.

His death marks a major loss for the party’s leadership in eastern UP, where he was regarded as a prominent and influential figure.

Singh, a veteran politician known for his grassroots connect, enjoyed strong support among Dalit and farming communities in the region.


In 2023, he won the Ghosi by-election with a decisive margin of more than 42,000 votes against BJP leader Dara Singh Chauhan, a result seen as a significant boost for the Samajwadi Party in the Purvanchal belt. He had represented the constituency earlier as well and was known for raising issues linked to rural development and public welfare.

Leaders across party lines expressed condolences over his passing.

The Samajwadi Party, in its official response, wrote: “The demise of Shri Sudhakar Singh Ji, the Samajwadi Party MLA from Ghosi Assembly, is extremely heartbreaking! May God grant peace to his soul. May the bereaved family find the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt tribute!”


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on X: “The passing away of the Honorable MLA Shri Sudhakar Singh Ji from the Ghosi Assembly Constituency of Mau District is extremely heartbreaking. My humble tribute to him. My condolences are with the bereaved family members. I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the departed soul be granted eternal peace and the grieving family be bestowed with the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Om Shanti!”

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also took to X to mourn the loss, saying: “The demise of Shri Sudhakar Singh Ji, the Samajwadi Party MLA from Ghosi Assembly, is extremely heartbreaking! May God grant peace to his soul. May the bereaved family find the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt condolences!”
