‘We didn’t make the film’: Did Naga Vamsi call Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR's War 2 Telugu release a 'mistake' after underperformance?

Even blockbuster films can stumble when expectations are sky-high. War 2, the highly anticipated action-thriller starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, made waves nationwide, but its Telugu dubbed version didn’t quite hit the mark. Naga Vamsi, who distributed the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, admitted that while the production team crafted the movie, the regional release faced challenges that were out of his hands. The result? A mix of fan excitement and social media trolling.

Vamsi reflected on the Telugu release, noting that he and Jr NTR had placed blind trust in Yash Raj Films, one of India’s biggest production houses. He stressed that mistakes happen, even with industry giants like Aditya Chopra, and the underwhelming Telugu response was a learning curve rather than a failure of effort. While social media criticism was intense, he found some relief knowing it wasn’t for a film he had created.

War 2, the 2025 Hindi-language action-thriller, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, is the latest adrenaline-packed entry in the YRF Spy Universe. Serving as the sequel to 2019’s War, it brings together Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR (making his Hindi debut), and Kiara Advani in the lead, with veterans Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. The film follows rogue RAW agent Kabir Dhaliwal, whose threat to national security lands him squarely in the crosshairs of special units officer Vikram Chelapathi.


Made on a jaw-dropping budget of Rs 300–400 crore, War 2 is one of the most expensive films in Indian cinema history. Released on 14 August 2025, perfectly timed for the Independence Day weekend, the film packed cinemas—but critics had mixed feelings. While the cast performances, action sequences, and visuals impressed, the story, screenplay, direction, and visual effects drew criticism. Nevertheless, it raked in Rs 364.35 crore worldwide, ranking as the third-highest-grossing Hindi film and fifth overall in India for 2025. The Telugu version chipped in Rs 56.74 crore at the net box office, proving that even dubbed versions can pack a punch.
