J&K deputy CM Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday claimed that some people want the National Conference government to resign but it won't and will continue to strive for the rights of the people.

Choudhary, while interacting with the reporters on the sidelines of a function here in Kashmir, said the elected government is facing huge challenges with its 'limited powers'.

He said BJP and PDP have ruined J&K and in the past decade the region was stripped of its special status as well as statehood. "Some people want us to resign. But we are not among those who run away or show our backs. We will struggle for the rights of people," Choudhary told reporters.

Choudhary said the elected government has limited resources and limited powers. "We do not have a free hand as we still have a dual governance system in which there is an elected government and an appointed administration," he said.

"We will fulfil all the promises made by NC president Farooq Abdullah and chief minister Omar Abdullah. We are in the midst of a struggle. We have been given a mandate for five years, not 10 months, to fulfil our election promises. Then you can ask us which promises we fulfilled and which we did not," he said.
