Pressure is mounting on Deputy CM DK Shivakumar to fix Bengaluru’s infrastructure gaps and cement its global reputation after a worldwide ranking of the 10 best tech cities placed Karnataka’s capital at the sixth place. The Dy CM had cheered the recognition saying Bengaluru’s vibrant talent pool, spirit of innovation, and unstoppable energy have placed it among the world’s leading tech hubs.

Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Aarin Capital chairman Mohandas Pai on Sunday exerted pressure on him to double down on infrastructure development, telling him that “he would be remembered as the man who transformed the city from gloom to glory.”

Pai, seconding Shaw’s opinion, said they would want to remember the Dy CM as the Minister who transformed Bengaluru. “But need an action Plan. No more rhetoric, but only action,” the former Infosys board member said.

Both corporate leaders nudged Shivakumar to rise to the occasion on the cusp of five new municipal corporations scheduled take over Bengaluru’s civic administration under the supervision of Greater Bengaluru Authority on September 2. “..From North to South, East to West and Central, this vision ensures that every part of Bengaluru grows with equal focus. United as one city, Greater Bengaluru will move forward with balanced development and shared progress,” the Dy CM said in a post on X.

The purpose of dividing into five city corporations is to provide better services and to carry out development. They will cover 27 assembly constituencies and 197 wards. Bengaluru's development is our first priority, the Dy CM said.

Industries Minister MB Patil said the recognition for Bengaluru further cemented its position as the tech capital of India and a leading force among the world’s most competitive tech markets.

Karnataka continued to generate IPs and pioneering innovations backed by 1.5 million plus professionals, a vibrant startup ecosystem and global R&D centres.

The five corporations that will replace Bengaluru’s civic body BBMP on Tuesday, will cover an area of 712 square kilometres. The present BBMP has been around since 2007 when the government expanded the jurisdiction of the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) by merging eight urban local bodies and 111 villages around the city.
