Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has once again called out the lapses in Bengaluru’s civic infrastructure, particularly acting on India's Silicon Valley's garbage issues.

Taking it to X, Shaw urged Bengaluru city authorities to act on Bengaluru's infrastructure challenges, saying the city has the talent and climate to rank among the best in the world if issues of garbage, debris, and roads are addressed.

“Namma Bengaluru has the best talent and the best weather but the worst infrastructure — if we fix garbage, debris and roads, we can be among the best cities in the world. GBA (Greater Bengaluru Authority) has a great opportunity to do this. Let’s use collective will to do this,” she said.

Shaw also tagged Shivakumar and BBMP chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao in her message.

Conceding her point, Shivakumar replied on X and said that Bengaluru has always had the talent, the weather, and the spirit.

"What it lacked was political will. That’s exactly what we are fixing now,” Shivakumar said.

The deputy CM added that the state government was working to address problems related to garbage, debris, and roads, while stressing the role of the newly formed Greater Bengaluru Authority. “With GBA, we now have a unique opportunity to transform this vision into reality, and we will deliver,” he said.

Calling for wider collaboration, Shivakumar appealed to all stakeholders to join the effort: “The future is ours to build – together!”

This is not the first time the deputy CM has spoken candidly about the city’s civic challenges. Earlier this month, he told the legislative council that his own children often complained about traffic and poor infrastructure.

Last week, schoolchildren from Mahadevapura sent him 500 postcards with the message: “We need basic infra, not daily adventure,” highlighting the difficulties faced during their daily commute to school.
