Kolkata: The newly appointed Trinamool Lok Sabha Leader Abhishek Banerjee today met Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi and sought discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Bridging the distances with the INDIA Bloc prevailing for long, Banerjee said that he will attend the INDIA Bloc’s dinner tonight.

“I had a courtesy meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker. I have told the Speaker that we want the House to function. We have sought a discussion on the SIR. Our MPs have been giving adjournment motions for the past 4-5 days. They have demanded discussions, but the Centre is not allowing it. We have told the Speaker that if required, discuss with the Centre and then allow us to debate on SIR,” Abhishek Banerjee said.

“If the Centre does not have something to hide or fear. Then why are they evading the topic? We want the House to function but the BJP does not want it. They don't have answers, and thus they are evading the issue,” he added.

He also stated that he will go for the INDIA bloc dinner.

After becoming Leader of Lok Sabha for AITC in Parliament, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee has started coordination in the floor of Lok Sabha with Congress in Parliament even as Congress submitted an adjournment motion on disrespect to Bengal and Bengali language - joins the fight with AITC on this issue, people in the know said.

After Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool National General Secretary said today that the Election Commission of India is doing work which is beyond its jurisdiction. “The ECI’s responsibility begins only when the Model Code of Conduct is in place. When MCC is in place, ECI can take over the State's civil and criminal/police administrative machinery in its own hands to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. But the work they have started for the past 3–4 months, with elections still 10–11 months away, clearly shows they will not allow an elected government to function. It has been done to give favours and advantages to the BJP,” Abhishek Banerjee said.

ECI is being used to see that real voters are unable to They can inform state government, which has won with huge mandate.

“ECI is an impartial & unbiased organization and it has to operate while remaining within the ambit of the Indian Constitution. Yesterday, I saw a residential certificate issued in the name of Donald Trump. You should ask the Chief Election Commissioner why Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India. Or maybe, when Mr. Trump comes to cast his vote for the Bihar elections, he will be in a suitable position to answer this question,” Banerjee pointed out.

Slamming BJP, Banerjee said, “The Bengal government, which has been voted to power by 12 crore people in 2021, is answerable only to the people and not to any political party or the Centre. We respect the judiciary, but since 2021, over 50 CBI investigations have been conducted through different benches of the Calcutta High Court.”
