Former Indian men’s cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has made a strategic investment in new-age insurer Acko through his family office, Midas Deals.

The company did not divulge any financial details in a statement announcing the investment.

"Their tech-first, customer-centric approach reflects the way new India wants to engage with insurance. I’m excited to support a brand that’s focused on trust and transformation," Dhoni said, on his investment.

Founded in 2016, Acko offers a range of products, including motor insurance, health insurance and travel insurance, through an online platform.

“Dhoni is one of the most well-liked and well-respected names in the country… For us, from a company perspective, our largest business today is car insurance. And Dhoni's love for automobiles is well-known,” said Varun Dua, in an interaction with ET. “So, there's probably also going to be a deeper collaboration around the car industry.”

The cricket star will also serve as Acko’s brand ambassador, according to the company's statement.

This is not the first time the insurtech company has joined hands with a celebrity. In 2023, it had roped in actors R Madhavan, Saif Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan for various campaigns.

Incidentally, Go Digit, Acko's main competitor, counts cricketer Virat Kohli and his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, as investors and brand ambassadors.

Acko Life Insurance’s premium collections nearly doubled to Rs 63 crore in fiscal year 2025, from Rs 36 crore in the previous fiscal year, as reported by ET. The startup entered the life insurance space last year.

The company is still in the red, and reported a net loss of Rs 670 crore in financial year 2024.
