Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old sensation, on Wednesday scored the second-fastest fifty by an Indian batter in an Under-19 ODI in the third match against England. He reached the milestone with a six and off 20 balls. The left-handed opener was eventually dismissed for 86 off only 31 balls, having scored six fours and nine sixes.
Only Rishabh Pant has scored a fifty in fewer balls for India in the format in Under-19 cricket. The wicket-keeper batter had raced to an 18-ball fifty against Nepal in 2016.
Suryavanshi’s blazing knock came in the second innings, with India facing a tall task of chasing a 269-run target in 40 overs to claim the series lead.
The 14-year-old had started the series in stunning way, scoring a 19-ball 48 in the first match and then smashed 45 off 34 balls in the second. India won the first match by six wickets, while fell short in the next by just one wicket.
Suryavanshi grabbed eyeballs last year when he smashed a century in a youth Test against Australia. His explosive batting approach earned him an IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals. The teenager announced his arrival in the T20 league in style, smashing an incredible 101 off just 38 deliveries during a match against Gujarat Titans.
