Virat Kohli makes first public appearance after Test retirement with Anushka Sharma

On Monday, Virat Kohli took to Instagram to make a public announcement on his retirement from Test cricket. The India cricketer was spotted flying out of Mumbai airport with Anushka Sharma the same day.

Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, May 12. He is the second high-profile India cricketer, after Rohit Sharma to bid adieu to the format. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were spotted at Mumbai airport on Monday afternoon.

The couple was seen making a stylish appearance as they set to board their flight to Bengaluru on Monday morning. Although the couple seemed to be in a hurry, they were spotted smiling and posing for the camera.

Virat Kohli was spotted with Anushka Sharma at the Mumbai airport amid the news of his retirement. A video of the couple captured them stepping out of their car at the airport. Both of them were seen donning comfy yet stylish fits.

While Anushka opted for an oversized pink and blue striped shirt with baggy jeans, her husband wore a beige linen shirt with matching pants.

Virat Kohli retires from Test cricket

On Monday, the cricketer took to Instagram to announce that he is retiring from Test cricket. Virat posted a photo of himself sporting a Test cricket jersey while holding a bat. The picture was accompanied by a long, heartfelt note by the cricketer.

“It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket,” Virat started the note, remembering his journey in Test cricket and adding how the format has tested, shaped, and taught him lessons that he would carry for life. “There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever,” Virat penned in the heartfelt note.

He further added that it was not easy for him to step away from Test cricket, but it felt right to do so. Then he proceeded to thank the players and his teammates with whom he shared the field, all the people who had made him feel seen, and the game, which had given him much more than he could have hoped for. Lastly, the former India captain wrote, “#269, signing off,” at the end of his note.


In June 2024, the cricketer had announced his retirement from T20I, which came as a shock to the fans and cricket lovers worldwide. Virat will continue to wear Team India’s blue jersey in the ODIs.
