Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has urged residents to remain calm and not rush to explosion sites, following incidents of unidentified projectiles landing in populated areas. “There is an advisory by the military that if there is an explosion, inform the Police or Army immediately. Do not rush to the location on your own because there might be some live parts (of the object) too...So, I urge everyone to not panic or believe rumours. The military is updating you every 2 hours. If the military wants anything - a school or college to stay, or an ambulance, we are providing them with the same. So, if you find a part of any bomb, drone or missile, inform Police or Army immediately. They will come there and defuse it. Don't rush there to see it...” Mann urged people.

His appeal came hours after a night of tension in several parts of Punjab, where explosion-like sounds were heard and an unidentified object crashed in Jalandhar district’s Kanganiwal village. One migrant labourer was injured and some houses were damaged in the incident, officials said.

Explosion sounds and debris across Punjab

Locals in Jalandhar described hearing a loud blast around 1:30 am on Saturday. A woman from the area said, “I was standing near a window when some object hit a water tank (of a house) around 1.30 am, shattering glasses of 4-5 houses before landing.” She added that the injured labourer was taken to hospital.

Satinder Kumar, a resident, said, “The water tank of our house was damaged, while many window panes were also shattered. There was smoke all around.” Another resident, Muskan, said, “One car was damaged...We were all scared.” Surjit Kaur said a red light flashed in the sky before the explosion. “Water tanks of some other houses in the area were also damaged,” she said.

Air sirens and closures across districts

Blast-like sounds were also heard in Pathankot around 5 am and in Jalandhar around 8:30 am. There was no official confirmation about these reports. Air raid sirens were activated in Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, and Jalandhar on Saturday morning. The Amritsar district administration at 7:54 am asked people to stay indoors and avoid windows.

Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal asked people to avoid public gatherings, stay indoors, and limit movement in tall buildings. Markets in Jalandhar Cantt and Adampur were ordered shut. “Malls and high-rise commercial buildings in the rest of the district will remain closed today,” he said.

Second night of drone attacks from Pakistan

According to officials, this was the second consecutive night of drone attacks from Pakistan. The Indian Air Defence intercepted multiple drones in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Amritsar districts. In Ferozepur, three family members were injured when a crashing projectile hit their house in Khai Pheme Ke village, setting the structure and a car on fire.

Officials also reported the presence of debris from unidentified objects in Beas (Amritsar), Jalandhar, and Tarn Taran districts.

India Pakistan Conflict escalates

Tensions have risen since the Indian armed forces carried out targeted strikes on Wednesday on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes followed the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which officials said had cross-border links.
