Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Goenka recounted a conversation with his wife that highlighted gold's impressive appreciation over the past decade.
“10 years ago, I bought a car for ₹8 lakh. She bought gold for ₹8 lakh. Today, the car is worth ₹1.5 lakh. Her gold is worth ₹32 lakh,” he wrote.
The RPG Group Chairperson continued with another example: “I said, ‘Let’s skip gold and go on a vacation?’ She replied, ‘Vacation lasts 5 days. Gold lasts 5 generations.’ I bought a phone for ₹1 lakh. She bought gold. Now, the phone’s worth ₹8,000. Her gold is ₹2 lakh.”
His conclusion? “Moral: Wives are smarter.”
Another opined, "Moral: one should keep accumulating wealth for next generation to spend on Car, Iphones, Cruises and world tours and we retire in Senior living destinations."
Gold hits record highs
Goenka’s post comes at a time when gold prices are breaking records. Spot prices recently surpassed ₹1 lakh per 10 grams in India, driven by a mix of global factors. The ongoing trade tensions between US President Donald Trump and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over interest rate cuts, a weakening US dollar, and uncertainties surrounding the US-China trade war have all contributed to the metal’s stellar rally.
As investors seek safe havens in turbulent times, Goenka’s message serves as a timely reminder of gold’s enduring value.
