MS Dhoni is back at the helm of Chennai Super Kings after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a broken elbow.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the IPL with a fracture on his elbow. MS Dhoni will take over as captain for the rest of the season," CSK coach Stephen Fleming said.

The announcement came a day ahead of CSK's home clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, sending fans into an emotional and a nostalgic whirlwind.

His leadership legacy is unmatched and his return injects a fresh wave of hope into CSK’s campaign. The team has suffered four defeats in five matches so far this season.

In 2022, Dhoni had handed over the leadership role to Ravindra Jadeja but reclaimed the captaincy mid-season from Ravindra Jadeja after a rough start.
