Telugu actor Vishnu Manchu’s much-anticipated mythological spectacle, Kannappa has officially secured a new release date. Initially scheduled to release on April 25, the film will now hit theatres on June 27, 2025, giving fans a few extra weeks to prepare for what promises to be a visual and emotional extravaganza.

The reason for the delay? VFX wizardry in the works

The makers had earlier cited that the postponement was due to the extensive work required on the film’s visual effects. With Kannappa being a VFX-heavy mythological epic, the team chose to prioritize quality over schedule—ensuring that the audience is treated to a rich and immersive cinematic experience worthy of its subject matter.

On April 9, the core team behind Kannappa—including Vishnu Manchu, producer and veteran actor Mohan Babu, director-choreographer Prabhu Deva, and executive producer Vinay Maheshwari—met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. During the meeting, the dignitaries shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of the film’s making. The visit adds to the buzz surrounding the film, signaling its pan-India aspirations and cultural depth.

The story of Kannappa

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu under the banner of AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory, Kannappa is based on the awe-inspiring legend of Kannappa, a devout follower of Lord Shiva known for his unwavering devotion. Set against a backdrop of ancient spiritualism and folklore, the film blends mythology with high-octane fantasy and emotion.

A star-studded saga with pan-India reach

Vishnu Manchu leads the cast in the titular role of Kannappa, while the supporting lineup reads like a who’s who of South Indian cinema—Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Preity Mukhundhan, and Madhoo.
