L2: Empuraan box office report - Mohanlal’s film inches closer to beating Manjummel Boys' record
Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan released on March 27. Since then, the Malayalam action drama has achieved a number of records. The movie, sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer, has managed to earn Rs 91.51 crore (net) in India in nine days

The movie is also inching closer to Manjummel Boys’ global box office total to be the biggest Malayalam grosser of all time, as per industry tracker Sacnlik. Manjummel Boys had grossed Rs 241 crore worldwide. Empuraan has earned Rs 236 crore till date and is likely to overtake Manjummel Boys soon.

The movie has managed to earn Rs 91.51 crore (net) in India in nine days. The movie collected Rs 2.9 crore on April 4, Friday. This was a fall of 25.64 percent in earnings compared to Thursday.However, with the weekend here, Empuraan could regain some momentum at the box office. Apart from Malayalam, the film, sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer, was also released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.

The actioner recorded the biggest opening in India for a Malayalam movie to date, collecting Rs 21 crore on its first day. Even before its release, Empuraan achieved a milestone in terms of advance ticket sales. According to a tweet by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the action drama registered the sale of over 96,000 tickets on BookMyShow just one hour after advance bookings opened. The film beat blockbusters like Pathaan, Leo, Jawan and Kalki 2898 AD to achieve this record.L2: Empuraan: Fan theories about L3: The Beginning
Empuraan stars Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas and aside from Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran. After the film’s release, several fan theories are doing the rounds about Lucifer 3 or L3: The Beginning, the final part of the franchise.Reports state that Mohanlal’s son could play a younger version of his character Khureshi Ab'raam. Some fans have now claimed that Tovino Thomas, one of the antagonists in L2: Empuraan, could return for the third part as well. Notably, his character Jathin, was killed in a helicopter crash in the film. But many fans are speculating that the character might have survived the blast somehow and will appear in the third part.
