Asaduddin Owaisi tears up copy of Waqf Bill in Lok Sabha, says the motive of the bill is to insult Muslims
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi held a symbolic protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, likening his actions to Mahatma Gandhi's historic protest in South Africa. Owaisi criticised the bill for being unconstitutional and divisive, alleging it targ...
During the debate, Owaisi said, "If you read history, you would see that he (Mahatma Gandhi) said about the laws of white South Africa, 'My conscience doesn't accept this' and he tore it up. Like Gandhi, I am also tearing up this law. This is unconstitutional. The BJP wants to create divisiveness in this country in the name of temples and mosques. I condemn this and I request you to accept the 10 amendments."
Owaisi strongly criticised the bill, calling it an attack on the faith and rights of Muslims. He accused the BJP of attempting to create communal unrest and suppress Muslim institutions.
"BJP wants to create riots between communities through this bill. The Modi government declared a war against the largest minority community in the country through this bill. This war is not on the bodies of Muslims but on their independence, social and educational status, their citizenship, madrasas, masjids, and dargahs," he said.
Owaisi further alleged that the bill aimed to strip Waqf properties from Muslim control. "By doing so, the encroacher will become the owner, and a non-Muslim will administrate the Waqf Board," he argued.
Opposition Calls Bill 'Unconstitutional'
The Opposition strongly opposed the bill, arguing that it violated fundamental rights. They contended that it went against Article 14, which guarantees equality before the law, and Article 15, which prohibits discrimination based on religion.Owaisi reiterated, "This Bill is an attack on Muslims. The Modi government has started a war on my freedom. My mosques, my dargahs, my madrasas are on target. This government is not revealing the truth. This Bill violates Article 14, Equal Protection. Limitations will be imposed."
