His name had previously appeared in an FIR filed by the Chhattisgarh Economic Offenses Wing, raising further concerns regarding his involvement in the case.
The central probe agency conducted searches at his residence on March 26.
In response to the action, Baghel’s office had posted on X, stating, “Now CBI has arrived. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to go to Delhi today for a meeting of the 'Drafting Committee' formed for the upcoming AICC meeting in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9." The post further added, "Before that, CBI has reached the Raipur and Bhilai residences."
The raids also extended to the premises of other Congress leaders and police officials in Raipur and Durg districts, according to sources quoted by PTI.
State Congress communication wing head Sushil Anand Shukla criticised the BJP over the raids, accusing the ruling party of being intimidated by Baghel.
Meanwhile, the former CM clarified on Saturday that his son, Chaitanya, had not received any notice from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear in connection with an alleged liquor scam linked to a money laundering case in the state. Baghel's statement came in response to reports that his son was summoned by the central agency on Saturday to record his statement.
