After facing criticism for her remarks on Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed has now posted an old tweet by Bollywood actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut. Mohamed, who had earlier called Sharma "fat" and an "unimpressive captain," deleted her controversial tweet following backlash. She then shared Ranaut’s past comments on Sharma, questioning the BJP’s stance on the matter.

Reference to Kangana Ranaut’s Past Comments

Mohamed posted Ranaut’s 2021 tweet, in which the actress had criticised Sharma during the farmers' protests. Ranaut had written, "Why all these cricketers sounding like dhobi ka kutta na ghar ka na ghat ka, why would farmers be against laws which are revolutionary for their well-being. These are terrorists creating ruckus... say that na itna darr lagta hai?"

Questioning the BJP’s position on Ranaut’s remarks, Mohamed asked, "Mandaviya ji, what will you say about Kangana Ranaut now?"

Escalating Political Debate

The controversy has now turned into a political battle between the BJP and Congress. While BJP leaders continue to criticize Mohamed’s remarks, Congress members are accusing the ruling party of double standards when it comes to comments made by their own leaders. The debate continues to gain traction on social media, with political figures and the public weighing in on the issue.

Shama Mohamed’s Tweet on Rohit Sharma Sparked Row

In her now-deleted social media post, Mohamed wrote, "Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Needs to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!" She further compared his achievements with former Indian cricket legends, stating, "What is so world-class about him when compared to his predecessors like Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni, Kohli, Kapil Dev, Shastri & the rest? He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India."

Political Reactions and Outrage

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur condemned Mohamed’s remarks, calling them "shameful and disgraceful." Members of the Congress party also distanced themselves from her statement, prompting Mohamed to take down her tweet. However, instead of letting the controversy settle, Mohamed reignited the debate by bringing up an old tweet from Ranaut.
