'Miss World ke baad, Seengh nikal gaye the': Priyanka Chopra's mother on why children must learn humility

Actor Priyanka Chopra's mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, has said that it's important for parents to teach kids about the importance of humility and being grounded in life. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, She reflected on how Priyanka’s achievements impacted their family and emphasized the need to remain grounded. “Jab vo Miss World bani thi toh humare bhi chote chote nikal gaye the (When Priyanka became Miss World, even we grew little horns),” she said with a laugh.

Teaching Life Lessons from a Young Age

Dr Chopra highlighted the importance of instilling values early in life. “Bacchon ko ye sab chutpan se seekhana padta hai. Sabki life mein ache din, bure din aate hai. Bure din aate hai toh ghabrane ki baat nahi hai aur ache din aate hai toh seengh nahi nikaalne. Unhe ye pata rahega toh vo grounded rahenge. (I’ve always believed that grounding values are best taught from a young age. This isn’t something you can instill when they’re adults. It’s essential for kids to grow up understanding that life has both good days and bad days. During tough times, there’s no need to panic, and in moments of glory, you shouldn’t let arrogance take over.)”

She further noted that staying grounded does not mean downplaying success but embracing self-awareness and openness to feedback. Success can boost confidence, but remembering the journey is crucial. Similarly, failures should be seen as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks.


Dr Madhu Chopra’s reminder that “seengh nahi nikaalne” serves as a lesson in keeping egos in check, whether during triumphs or tribulations. Maintaining this balance helps in appreciating life’s journey and its lessons.
