Investor Chris Sacca, while not a household name like Warren Buffett or Ray Dalio, has quietly built a fortune worth $1.2 billion through his sharp investing eye. Starting at just 13, Sacca made $171 from an options trade, a modest amount that set the stage for an extraordinary career, as per a report.

Mentor’s influence

Sacca’s investment journey began with mentorship from Bob Haas, a family friend and investor who gave Sacca a unique opportunity. Haas offered to cover the cost of Sacca’s first trade, with the agreement to split any profits. That offer sparked Sacca’s fascination with the market.

He spent a week doing market research, learning everything from stochastic charts to technical analysis, eventually settling on commodities and discovering an opportunity in live hog futures, reported Benzinga.

The moment that changed everything

That first trade paid off. Sacca made $171, which was more than his $4.25-per-hour manual labour job at a construction company.

Sacca was amazed that he could make that kind of money "by pushing a button and using my brain,” as quoted by Benzinga. From then on, he was hooked. The idea of making money through strategy, not sweat, became his mission. He recalled "I was like, I want to be the guy who works upstairs," as quoted in the report.

Obsession with the stock market

After that, Chris Sacca’s obsession with the stock market grew so intense that he would carry a pager to school just to stay updated on major market events. After that he earned his law degree from Georgetown University in 2000, Sacca landed a job as an in-house attorney at Google. But his passion for making smart moves didn’t stop there. He soon became an early investor in Twitter.
