Displaced workers, however, will be able to apply for other jobs internally. It couldn't be determined which divisions the reductions were focused on, the report added.
As per media reports, Salesforce had nearly 73,000 workers as of January 2024, when that fiscal year ended.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff had said last month that the company would not be hiring any more engineers this year due to significant productivity gains from AI, as reported by ET.
The cloud giant was currently working on its business plan for the upcoming year, and Agentforce, the company's flagship AI product, was "the only thing that really matters today,” he said on the 20VC podcast with Harry Stebbings.
The company had previously laid off about 700 employees in January 2024 and another 300 in July.
Microsoft has reportedly started firing employees based on performance, with workers receiving termination notices for not meeting the company’s performance standards. These employees were let go immediately and did not receive a severance package.
Amazon, too, has cut dozens of jobs in its communications unit as part of a new round of layoffs, continuing its efforts to streamline operations and reduce costs.
