Member of the British Royal Family and son of Princess Diana, Prince Harry receives unconditional apology from the British Tabloid’s like The Sun, which are owned by Billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s company, News Group Newspapers. Prince Harry was suing the tabloids over phone hacking and information gathered over unethical means. Lawyer representing Prince Harry announced that they have reached a settlement with Murdoch’s news company. Additionally, the news group has also agreed to pay substantial damages to the royal which remains undisclosed.

News Group Newspapers apology mentioned the intrusion in Prince Harry’s personal life by Private Instigators, hired by The Sun, which began from 1996 and ended around 2011. The group also apologized over the phone hacking and surveillance by the Private Instigators and Journalists to misuse the private information, which was done by the now defunct tabloid, News of the World. Additionally, the group accepted and apologized for the intrusion in the private life of Princess Diana.

The royal had previously stated in a documentary that his legal battle against the british tabloids had caused a rift within the royal family and wished that his family would have joined him in this legal battle. Prince Harry broke the royal family tradition of never taking the press to the Court despite several infringements by the British Press.

The settlement and apology was announced a day before the trial was set to begin. It is also contended that the acceptance of the settlement saved Prince Harry from the risk of paying the legal costs of both the sides if the British Court had not granted him a settlement amount similar to the size which was offered from News Group Newspaper lawyers. The lawyers from the News Group had earlier stated that the royal was trying to turn the trial into a public spectacle. Additionally, the Court had previously rejected Prince Harry's plea to include Rupert Murdoch in the case.

Having earlier announced that he will not be settling with the tabloids, the settlement and the unconditional apology adds another page to the notorious past of the British Tabloids. The Sun has been infamous since the 90s, for its coverage of the Hillsborough Disaster. The Disaster had claimed 97 lives and left several hundred people injured over gross negligence by the Police in a Football Game. The Tabloid blamed the several thousand Liverpool Supporters over the crowd crush. This stance was heavily criticised and condemned by the people and the tabloid was boycotted. Additionally, the tabloid has been criticised over Homophobia, Xenophobia and unethical investigation.
