CM honours tech leaders who helped shape Bengaluru’s global profile

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Dy CM DK Shivakumar remembered the contributions made by tall political figures and tech titans for building Bengaluru’s reputation as a global technology hub, while speaking at the tech summit inaugural.

Siddaramaiah recalled it was under the visionary leadership of SM Krishna in the early 2000s, that Bengaluru transformed with initiatives like Electronic City and IT parks, with the government laying the groundwork for the city's global tech reputation.

“Today, Bengaluru is internationally recognized for its influence in software, biotechnology, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing, establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing cities worldwide,” the CM said.


Krishna headed the Congress regime as chief minister from 1994 to 2004 before joining the BJP years later.

Shivakumar recalled that if Jawaharlal Nehru had not demonstrated the foresight to set up a series of public sector industries, Bengaluru perhaps would not have been what it is today.

He praised Wipro founder Azim Premji and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy for lifting the city’s profile. “If Azim Premjis and Narayana Murthys of the world had not ventured out, perhaps Bengaluru would not be Bengaluru today. If thousands of Bengaluru had not chosen Bengaluru for their start-ups, Bengaluru perhaps would not be Bengaluru today.”
