Delhi Ganesh’s career spanned over four decades, during which he starred in more than 400 films, establishing himself as one of Tamil cinema’s beloved character actors. Known for his effortless adaptation to varied roles, he portrayed comedians, villains, and deeply emotional supporting characters, endearing himself to audiences across generations. He shared screen space with some of Tamil cinema's biggest icons, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
Ganesh’s journey in cinema began in 1976 with Pattina Pravesam, directed by the legendary K. Balachander, who also gave him the name "Delhi Ganesh." Although he played a lead role in Engamma Maharani in 1981, it was his memorable roles as a supporting actor that truly solidified his popularity. His standout performances included films like Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), Nayakan (1987), Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990), Aahaa..! (1997), and Thenali (2000), where he effortlessly balanced humour and emotion.
Delhi Ganesh’s contributions to Tamil cinema earned him multiple awards. He received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for Pasi (1979), and in 1994, he was honoured with the prestigious Kalaimamani Award by then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in recognition of his excellence in the arts.
In the later years of his career, Ganesh expanded his craft into television and short films, continuously captivating audiences. Among his unique performances was a cameo as Alfred Pennyworth in the short film What If Batman Was from Chennai. His brief but memorable appearance in the 2016 thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, directed by Karthick Naren, also garnered positive responses. Beyond the screen, he was actively involved with the Delhi-based theatre troupe Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha, showcasing his dedication to performing arts across different mediums.
