Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday evening and immediately started deliberations with the party leaders.

The Congress leaders are scheduled to meet INDIA bloc members Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference here and later may interact with the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti as well.

"Khargeji and Rahulji will meet the party leaders to finalise the potential candidates for the assembly elections and will also deliberate on possibilities of pre-poll alliance," said a Congress leader.

Gandhi is scheduled to address a press conference here on Thursday morning and later will fly to Jammu where he will attend a workers' meeting. The visit assumes significance as both Congress and NC have expressed inclination for a strategic "pre-poll alliance", especially in Jammu division.
