In a heated exchange in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Arun Govil has commented on the recent remarks made by Anurag Thakur regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Govil said, “It is strange to say anything about Rahul Gandhi. I don't understand how he takes things, how he understands this. He takes things somewhere else. He wants to say something but says something else.”

The controversy erupted on Tuesday when Anurag Thakur, a BJP leader and former Union Minister, took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi’s focus on the caste census.

"OBC ki baat, janganana ki baat bahut ki jati hai. Jiske .... , vo ganana ki baat karte hai," Thakur said.

Anurag Thakur's comments ignited a fierce debate in the House. In response, Rahul Gandhi stated that the abuse and insults directed at him stem from his advocacy for the marginalised and oppressed.

"Anyone in this country who speaks and fights for Dalits, Adivasis and the oppressed has to hear abuses. I am happily ready to take all these abuses. Just as in Mahabharata Arjun could see only the eye of the fish, I am only looking at caste census and we will get it done at any cost. You can abuse me as much as you want, I will happily accept it all," Rahul Gandhi said.

Meanwhile, PM Modi praised Anurag Thakur's speech, saying it is a "must hear". "This speech by my young and energetic colleague Shri Anurag Thakur is a must hear. A perfect mix of facts and humour, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI Alliance," Modi said on X.
