Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Democratic Progressive Azad Party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the Lok Sabha polls from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. Senior DPAP leader Taj Mohiuddin informed that the party has decided to field Azad as its candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri seat.

"Our party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest Lok Sabha elections from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. We are also open to alliances with the like-minded parties," Mohiuddin told reporters here.

The announcement came a day after the NC fielded prominent tribal leader Mian Altaf as its candidate from this Lok Sabha constituency.

As of now, only these two parties have announced their candidates for this seat. The Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, spread across the Pir Panchal mountains in southern Kashmir, is also important for the BJP who recently announced reservation for Paharis who form a major segment of the electorate in this constituency.
