Grandparents fought for independence, parents for roti-kapda, we have to build India: Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal

The context behind Aggarwal's tweet appears to be closely related to Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy's '70 hours a week' remarks.

"Our Grandparents generation fought for independence. Our Parents generation fought for roti kapda makaan. Like it or not, our generation is destined to build India to the largest economy," Ola Electric's founder and chief executive officer Bhavish Aggarwal said.

"It will take every effort. No better satisfaction than to contribute in this journey!" he added.

The context behind Aggarwal's tweet appears to be closely related to remarks made by Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy. Murthy ignited a debate when he advocated for the idea that if India aims to make significant progress, the youth of the nation should enhance productivity and put in the hard work, possibly even dedicating up to 70 hours a week.

During a conversation with former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai, Narayana Murthy highlighted the need for India's youth to adopt productive habits, especially those borrowed from the West. He expressed concern, stating, “Somehow our youth have the habit of taking not so desirable habits from the west and then not helping the country.”

After Murthy's statement went viral, Bhavish Aggarwal backed him saying, "Totally agree with Mr Murthy’s views. It’s not our moment to work less and entertain ourselves. Rather it’s our moment to go all in and build in 1 generation what other countries have built over many generations!"

However, not everyone agreed with Aggarwal's latest tweet. "Everyone is contributing his/her share but this contribution must not be on sacrificing one’s health, relationships, family and then regretting one’s decisions on deathbed!," replied one Ankit Bahuguna.

There were some supporters of Aggarwal, too. "From independence to prosperity, each generation leaves its mark on the nation. Our time is now, and the journey to make India the largest economy is our legacy in the making. The torch of progress passes from one generation to the next," said one Amit Misra.
