Airtel: Home broadband customers are now upgrading to faster speeds and larger quota plans

Airtel offers its home broadband services in 100 cities across the country though V-Fiber and Xtreme products.

Indian telecom industry could lose up to 60 million subscribers in the next six months as incumbents Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel aggresively push their prepaid customers to opt for minimum recharge plans. These latest packs have laid a platform on pricing i.e. almost at par with Reliance Jio's minimum tariff plan.

Bharti Airtel said its home broadband customers are now upgrading to faster speeds and larger quota plans as they increasingly start to work from home to contain the spread of Covid-19 or coronavirus.

"Home Broadband customers are now upgrading to faster speeds and larger quota plans to support work from home and study for home needs. Airtel’s B2B customers are utilising 4G dongles, Home Fiber connections and larger enterprise bandwidths which are all being serviced smoothly," Randeep Sekhon, CTO, Bharti Airtel, told ET.

Airtel offers its home broadband services in 100 cities across the country though V-Fiber and Xtreme products.


The demand for WiFi equipment has more than doubled in the last two weeks leading to a supply crunch, with even the rental ecosystem for devices becoming a hit.


India has 19 million fixed line broadband users which include enterprises and offices and 17 million home fixed line broadband users. On the other hand, there are over 640 million mobile broadband users accessing it through a 4G smartphone / dongle and other such devices, according to data from research firm TechArc.

According to a MediaNama report, Internet exchanges in India have been recording significant rises in peak traffic. It added that Extreme IX, Mumbai IX, and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) have been recording sharp increases of up to 100Gbps in traffic.
