Personal details of 1.29 million Limeroad customers up for sale on darkweb: Cyble

“As part of our regular deepweb and darkweb monitoring, we came across a threat actor who claimed to have around 1.29 million customer records of LimeRoad. The data seems to be legitimate,” said Cyble.

LimeRoad was co-founded in 2012 by Suchi Mukherjee, Manish Saksena and Ankush Mehra as a fashion marketplace for women and was the first social shopping website that dealt in clothing and accessories for women, men and children.
MUMBAI: Even as online shoppers switch from Chinese apps to Indian e-commerce apps, US-based cyber security firm Cyble reported that fashion platform Limeroad’s customer database has suffered a breach with details of 1.29 million shoppers up for sale on the darkweb.

The platform has however denied that the leaked details belong to its customers and said that it has sought further data with the help of a cybersecurity official.

“As part of our regular deepweb and darkweb monitoring, we came across a threat actor who claimed to have around 1.29 million customer records of LimeRoad. The data seems to be legitimate,” said Cyble.

The database leaked by a threat actor according to the firm includes the full names of users, their phone numbers and email ids. A sample of the data has been reviewed by ET.

In response to ET's queries Limeroad has denied that the leaked details belong to its customers. Suchi Mukherjee CEO and Founder LimeRoad said, "It has come to our notice that US-based cyber threat intelligence company Cyble has alleged that a ‘threat actor’— who claims to have around 1.29 million customer records of LimeRoad — has posted their first name, last name, phone number, and email IDs for sale on Darknet. LimeRoad strongly denies these baseless allegations. As of now, only 44 numbers are available for the sample, of which very few can match our users' numbers. We have no reason to believe anything other than that this is a random selection. We have asked the poster of the darknet and the officer from the cybersecurity front to give us the data to validate. We have not received any further data. Given the current data points, we have no reason to believe these numbers belong to any of our customers."

Ecommerce websites have been seeing an increased number of attacks over the past few months. In May a hacker had leaked details of 15 million users registered on Tokopedia, Indonesia's largest online store.
