GUWAHATI: Special NIA court has sought status report from the Guwahati Central jail pertaining to the health of peasant leader Akhil Gogoi.

Gogoi’s wife had filed a petition alleging that Gogoi is ‘extremely’ unwell and alleged that the jail authorities have been negligent towards his ailing health and also accused it this to be an deliberate attempt.

Following violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in December last, Akhil Gogoi was arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.


Family members claim that Gogoi is suffering from from acute urinary tract infection, high fever, accompanied by stomach and back pain.

NIA court has asked the Superintendent of the Guwahati central jail to submit a status report in the court by Wednesday.

KMSS stated two days ago, the jail authority brought Gogoi to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital after he complained about stomach pain. The GMCH authority discharged him after necessary examinations.

Monoj Gogoi, a relative of Akhil Gogoi said, “I went to the Guwahati central jail to meet my elder brother. But, it is very pathetic that due to his ill-health he could even meet me. Other KMSS members, who are in the jail, informed me that Akhil Gogoi is not in a condition to get up and move.”
