Bengaluru: The Karnataka Congress on Wednesday, accused Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s family members of corruption and money laundering in a housing project and demanded his resignation to ensure fair investigation.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, state Congress-in-charge Randeep Singh Sujrewala said that audio, Whatsapp conversations and documents show that Yediyurappa’s son B Y Vijayendra had demanded a bribe of Rs 17 crore from a contractor to issue a work order for an apartment project of the Bangalore Development Authority. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 666 crore.

“This is the case of a collusion and complicity of a contractor supposedly paying bribes to the chief minister’s family members. Several Whatsapp chats between Vijayendra and CM’s grandson Shasidhar Maradi indicate that crores of rupees was transferred to the account of Yediyurappa’s family members through RTGS system,” Sujrewala said.

The state Congress leaders have demanded judicial enquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge or Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. “BSY should immediately resign to ensure fairness in the investigation. Yediyurappa has no moral and ethical right to continue,” opposition leader in the legislative assembly Siddaramaiah said. Following the press conference, he also ran a Twitter campaign BSY_Must_Resign.
